2022 Primary Election 

 

The primary election was last Tuesday, September 13. The only statewide primary race was a Democratic primary for State Auditor. In that race, the incumbent, Kathleen McGuiness, lost to challenger Lydia York, with York garnering some 71% of the vote. According to the Department of Elections, statewide turnout among eligible voters was only 16.2%.  

 

Two General Assembly incumbents lost to primary opponents. Senator Colin Bonini (R-Dover) lost in a three-way primary where Kent County Levy Court Commissioner Eric Buckson emerged victorious. Buckson is unopposed in the General Election. The House Majority Whip, Representative Larry Mitchell (D-Elsmere), lost his primary race to challenger DeShanna Neal. Neal will face Republican challenger Carlucci Coelho in the general election on Tuesday, November 8.
