Congratulations to our Women's Leadership Conference Award Winners!


On Thursday, November 15th, 2018, the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce will present three awards at the Women's Leadership Conference. The awards and winners are:


Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year: Patricia Rivera, Hook PR
Patricia V. Rivera, a brand storyteller and marketing consultant, excels at helping Delaware organizations build their brands with meaningful content across multiple channels. As founder of Hook PR & Marketing, she leads a team of creative communicators to develop campaigns for a cross- section of Delaware state agencies, nonprofits and service professionals, including stand by Me, the Delaware Higher Education Office, NCALL Research and Telamon Corporation.

Women's Leadership Award: Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon, President of Wilmington University
Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon became President of Wilmington University in July of 2017 after being unanimously approved by its Board of Trustees. She is the first African-American woman to be named the president of a college or university in the state of Delaware. Dr. Harmon holds a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Lifetime Achievement Award: Marilyn Monahan, Ministry of Caring
Marilyn Monahan has proudly served and improved her community for over 40 years. Starting her career as a teacher, she became the Secretary and Treasurer of the National Education Association. For six years, she worked for the MBNA Foundation, managing programs like the Campaign for Education and the Delaware Best Friends Program. After retiring from MBNA, she became the executive director for the Reading Assist Institute, an organization whose mission is “to improve the literacy skills of children at risk for reading failure.” She joined the Ministry of Caring’s Board of Directors in 2010, an organization that supports the poor and homeless men, women and children.
