In today’s economic environment change is inevitable whether it is in the downsizing of DuPont or the closure of a small business in Smyrna. However, making the shift from a full-time gig with a regular paycheck to starting your own business oftentimes begins with a lot of passion.

Antionette Blake, mother of two sons, and a wife of 27+ years understands this all too well. A 20-year employee in Corporate America with Big Blue ( IBM ) her dreams of retiring with a full pension and a gold watch were dashed in 2005 when she was laid off.

However, inspired by other, albeit younger small business owners her entrepreneurial spark was ignited. So at the age of 54, she decided it was time to turn her passion into a profit and become an Encore Entrepreneur and ABlake Enterprises was founded.

Antionette was born with a love for writing and having a BS Degree in Elementary Education, blogging and social media instruction came natural to her. She began her first blog in 2011, as a way to fill the void left by the death of her grandmother who passed away at the age of 98.

This blog, initially focused on fashion and fun after fifty and discovering deals in Delaware, however, covering local events throughout the state became more of an interest. Her expertise in blogging was recognized by Ronni Cohen, Executive Director of The Delaware Financial Literacy Institute who after reading her post about their “Purses to Portfolio” event asked if she would be interested in providing social media coverage for DFLI.

Antionette not only provided social media coverage for DFLI, she eventually became a volunteer instructor, conducting Blogging and Social Media Workshops at local libraries in New Castle County. Throughout her many years she has trained more than 500 small business owners and entrepreneurs. In addition to these monthly training workshops she also volunteered her time and expertise working with disadvantaged
business owners at Independent Resources in Dover as part of their Launch Space Small Business Program; has spoken to business owners at churches, non-profit organizations and to high school students.

Antionette continues to support many non-profits and churches in the state of Delaware and donates hours of her time coaching and conducting Social Media Marketing for Business Workshops most recently at Seeds of Greatness Church, Women’s Business Center, YWCADE, and NAWBO as well as mentoring young men and women in social media and Podcasting.

Her weekly Podcast, “Social Media Sunday with the Delaware Blogger” on Blog Talk Radio is yet another platform which allows her to give back by featuring guests who are making a positive difference in their communities not only in the state of Delaware but in other parts of the world.

Antionette was featured in an online article at Technical.lyDE and in Delaware Today Magazine as one of Delaware’s 36 Intriguing Delawareans and was recently recognized and received the 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year Award , by the men of Psi Iota Chaper of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in Dover, DE.

Antionette is not looking to slow down or retire anytime soon, not because of what she does for the clients of ABlake Enterprises, but because of what she does for her community at large.
