Do More 24 Delaware is Delaware’s one-day online community giving campaign that will take place on June 7, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. and end at 12:00 a.m. Every 501(c)3 organization in Delaware is eligible to participate. Nonprofits will register their organization to be listed on the Do More 24 Delaware site. On June 7, 2017, community members will funnel their dollars to organizations that support causes that they care about the most.

Everything about philanthropy is changing. Earlier approaches of donating funds and hoping for the best have (rightfully) given way to a focus on high impact, scalable, sustainable outcomes. Online giving options are attracting more and more donors. Millennials demand“hands-on” options for their charitable work. And a rapidly changing tax code is creating new challenges for everyone. Nonprofits simply cannot afford to approach fundraising with a“business as usual” mindset.

Seeking to address this reality, United Way of Delaware (UWDE) launched its Do More 24 Delaware campaign. During the one-day campaign, nonprofits many of which are small, thinly staffed organizations--summon their creative talents and fan out across the state and the internet in a fun, friendly competition to raise incremental dollars for their operations. Winning agencies in several categories earn cash awards. As the organizer, UWDE provides the platform, marketing, and online and administrative support to power Do More 24 Delaware (at no charge).

This innovative approach is working! In the last two years, Do More 24 DE partner agencies generated more than $220,000 in incremental, unrestricted dollars for the nonprofit sector. But there’s more than money behind Do More 24 DE. One of the new realities for nonprofits is that an increasing share of donations comes from individual, rather than corporate donors. For small and mid-size nonprofits, reaching these donors can be a real challenge. That’s where Do More 24 DE brings more than money to the equation.

In preparing partner agencies to make the most of this 24-hour opportunity, United Way of Delaware provides agencies the training and tools, especially the social media tools, necessary to stage their own crowdfunding initiatives. Using this training, Do More 24 DE partner agencies generated a 50% increase in individual donors between 2016 and 2017! Importantly, these learned skills extend beyond Do More 24 DE, with many agencies applying these efforts in creative ways throughout the year.
