Cancer Care Connection and JFS Delaware Join Forces

This summer, Cancer Care Connection became an affiliate of Jewish Family Services of Delaware, broadening the support services that both organizations provide.

Cancer Care Connection’s services often start with a free telephone call to one of our oncology social workers for information, resources and support addressing the emotional impact of cancer.  A call may be a simple question and last five minutes.  More often, the caller shares the emotional, non-medical issues he or she is facing and the conversation continues as long as is needed.

Since 2014, Cancer Care Connection has provided face-to-face counseling sessions at cancer center partner locations. When the pandemic started, these sessions were converted to a virtual platform.  As of June 2020, in-person sessions are once again being conducted on a limited basis.  In 2018, Cancer Care Connection started providing counseling sessions over the telephone (for a sliding scale fee). Our affiliation with JFS will make it possible for us to bill 3rd party payers for our counseling services, expanding our capacity to provide community-based care to more patients and caregivers.

Both Jewish Family Services and Cancer Care Connection were looking to expand their services and this year determined that a joint effort would make such expansion possible. “The idea that JFS, now with Cancer Care Connection, can become a one-stop-shop for cancer patients and their families in our community makes my heart soar,” says Erica Griffiths, a Delaware mom with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC), whose daughter currently receives therapeutic support from JFS. “This level of specialty and efficiency can change the entire trajectory for a cancer patient and their family.”

“We are thrilled to become part of the JFS family on so many levels,” says Cancer Care Connection’s Executive Director Janet Teixeira. “This assures our future, helps us reach more people and expands the way both organizations help our clients. We share with JFS a commitment to provide high quality, meaningful services,” Janet adds.

For JFS, this partnership is a natural extension of the agency’s mission to provide counseling and support services to vulnerable individuals and families to navigate life’s challenges.  “We are always thinking creatively and strategically about strengthening our services and broadening our reach to best serve our community,” shares CEO Basha Silverman.  “With Cancer Care Connection’s shared commitment to creating an effective and impactful response to the emotional needs of those we serve, together we can really make a bigger, bolder difference for individuals and families who need our specialized support services.  We are grateful to partner with Cancer Care Connection to make this possible.”
