New Castle County Chamber of Commerce 97th Annual Dinner
On Monday, March 18th, the Chamber celebrated its 97th Annual Dinner with over four-hundred guests in attendance. The event kicked off with a welcome from Chamber President Bob Chadwick, followed by the Presentation of Colors by Boy Scout Pack 342 from Saint Mary Magdalen School. The National Anthem was sung wonderfully by the Concord High School Madrigals of the Brandywine School District and we received a blessing from Reverend Edwin Estevez, the Convening Pastor of Riverfront Church.
Prior to breaking for dinner, Governor John Carney spoke about the current growth within the state of Delaware, highlighting several economic projects currently underway in New Castle County. Special thanks to the Governor for taking the time to deliver an excellent speech. Following dinner, awards were presented to three special individuals who have made positive impacts within the Chamber, New Castle County, and the state of Delaware.
Our Ambassador of the Year Award was given to Ambassador Chairperson, Khristian Toolan of Marling’s Emergency Water Removal and Carpet Cleaning. Khristian was well deserving of the award for her tireless efforts in promoting the Chamber as well as her community service.
- Dave Swayze was awarded the Wallace Johnson Community Service Award for the positive impact he has made in several facets within the State of Delaware. Dave’s speech was fantastic as he offered genuine appreciation of the award, while commending those, including his late father, who played an important role in molding him into the person and professional he is today.
- Representative Quinn Johnson received the Free Enterprise Award. This award is given to an elected official who embodies the spirit of free enterprise. Representative Johnson shared his secrets to success as a small business owner. Back in 1992, he and his wife started what is now known as “Tender Love and Kare”, child care services in their home. At the time the company had one employee and cared for six children. The organization now employs 135 people and cares for over 750 children! He concluded by stating we should not be afraid of stepping out of our comfort zones in regards to growing our professional portfolio and achieving great success.
The event concluded with a presentation by keynote speaker, Rod Ward, President & CEO of CSC and Co-Chair of the Delaware Prosperity Partnership. He discussed the overall economic status of the state of Delaware. Unemployment and interest rates are on a steady decline, while revitalizations continue to increase throughout Wilmington, New Castle, and their surrounding areas.
