DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed for this event. \n\n\n\nThe New Castle County Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner attracts over 500 attendees and provides our members access to elected officials and a great opportunity for networking.\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\nKeynote Speaker: Dr. Dennis Assanis - President of the University of Delaware\n\nDennis Assanis is the 28th President of the University of Delaware. He was elected to the position by the UD Board of Trustees on Nov. 18\, 2015. He took office June 6\, 2016\, and was formally inaugurated Dec. 7\, 2016.\n\n\n\nDr. Assanis is a distinguished educator with a wide range of academic leadership experience and a worldwide reputation as a scholar and expert in both fundamental and applied studies of internal combustion engines and energy systems.\n\n\n\nBefore coming to UD\, Dr. Assanis served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Stony Brook University and as vice president for Brookhaven National Laboratory Affairs. He previously taught and conducted research at the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.\n\n\n\nBorn and raised in Athens\, Greece\, Dr. Assanis earned his Bachelor?s Degree in Marine Engineering from Newcastle University in England (1980). At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology\, he earned three Master?s Degrees: Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (1982)\, Mechanical Engineering (1982) and Management (1986). Also at MIT\, he earned a Ph.D. in Power and Propulsion (1985).\n\n\n\nDr. Assanis and his wife\, Eleni\, have two adult sons\, Nicholas and Dimitris.\n\n\n\n________________________________________________________\n\nMajor General Francis D. Vavala\, Retired General of the Delaware National Guard will honored with the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award! The Award will presented at the Chamber's Annual Dinner on March 20th at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout General Vavala\n\nMajor General Francis D. Vavala assumed duties as Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard in February 1999\, after serving as Assistant Adjutant General\, Delaware Army National Guard. As adjutant general\, he is responsible for the mission readiness of all Delaware National Guard units\, Army and Air\, for both federal and state missions.
