SUMMARY:Volunteer Leadership: What Serving on a Nonprofit Board Can Make Possible for the Community - A Non-Profit Forum
DESCRIPTION:Nonprofit Organizations are on the front lines when it comes to addressing social issues\, offering quality of life opportunities\, and promoting and advancing education and job creation. Their success and ability to serve the community is tied too the engaged leadership of their board of directors. In this presentation\, Dr. Bravo will share considerations for selecting a board to serve on\, and aid to find the right one.\n\n \n\nShe will talk about Board leadership\, best practices\, and how that can make a difference in the community the nonprofit serves.\n\n\n\nTopics to be covered include:\n\n	Nonprofit landscape in Delaware\n	Board and Board member role - Tips for finding a good board match\n	Board performance expectations\n\nSpeakers:  \n\n\n\nSheila Bravo  \n\nDelaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement\n\n\n\nSheila Bravo joined the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement\, or DANA\, as President and CEO in fall 2015. DANA is a nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to strengthen\, enhance\, and advance nonprofits and the nonprofit sector in Delaware. DANA's work includes advocacy\, sector research\, and capacity building to help nonprofits deliver their mission more effectively and efficiently. Sheila joined DANA after serving as Executive Director of the Rehoboth Art League. Prior to that\, she provided board training\, strategic planning\, new product development and marketing consulting to small businesses and nonprofits. She began her career in advertising\, then in leadership positions for global consumer brands. Throughout her time\, she was an active volunteer\, and valued the passion and purpose of the many nonprofits in which she worked. Her interests led her to pursue a doctorate in organizational leadership\, specializing in non-profit governance. Bravo has a PhD in Organizational Leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore\, an MBA in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management\, and a BS in Business and Languages from Millersville University. \n\n\n\nAgenda:\n\n8:00 to 8:30 a.m. -     Networking and Registration\n\n8:30 to 8:45 a.m. -     Introductions\n\n8:45 to 11:20 a.m. -   Interactive Presentation\n\n11:20 to 11:30 a.m. - Q&A and Wrap-Up\n\n\n\nContinental Breakfast is included.
