Description
Join us on Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. as Eric Klinenberg, author of 2020: One City, Seven People, and the Year Everything Changed, speaks at our Building Opportunity Keynote Presentation! Eric Klinenberg is the Helen Gould Shepard Professor of Social Science and Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University. Eric is passionate about understanding the sociology of how and why communities support, and don’t support, each other. His book is focused on a year when nothing was certain and everything was at stake — similar to the years 1914, 1929 and 1968 in its consequentiality. Highly readable, it includes seven profiles of ordinary people wrestling with the pandemic. These are interspersed with chapters about the local, national and world events impacting their lives. Ultimately, he tells the story of how from tremendous global crisis can come rebuilt, stronger communities. Among his many roles, Eric is the editor of Cultural Production in a Digital Age, co-editor of Antidemocracy in America, and co-author, with Aziz Ansari, of the New York Times #1 bestseller Modern Romance. His scholarly work has been published in journals and he has contributed to The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, and This American Life. Learn more at EricKlinenberg.com
