Description
Join Us for a Policy Makers Breakfast with United States Senator Chris Coons!
On Thursday, April 6th, Senator Coons will be our featured speaker at the Hilton Wilmington/Christiana
Senator Chris Coons was elected to the United States Senate in 2010 following service in county government in Delaware. Senator Coons has worked hard to find bipartisan solutions to the issues
confronting his state and the nation. As a member of the Senate Appropriations, Foreign Relations,
Judiciary, Ethics, and Small Business committees, Senator Coons is uniquely positioned to nurture
American innovation and make the United States more competitive in the global market.
Prior to his public service, the senator worked for one of the 200 largest privately held companies in the
United States, headquartered in Delaware, where he helped the company expand and create hundreds
of jobs. Committed to fulfilling the economic potential of American innovation, Senator Coons has
introduced legislation and worked aggressively for a series of measures designed to help create jobs and
grow our economy. He strongly supports research and development, introducing legislation to make
permanent the R&D tax credit and allow innovative startup companies to access it. He has also worked
on legislation to modernize our copyright laws and patent system. Senator Coons wrote the section of
the CARES Act that provided $12 billion in debt relief for small businesses with SBA loans, was one of
three authors of the first bill to fund a second round of PPP, and has focused on ensuring the SBA’s
signature 7a and 504 programs have the funding needed to support small businesses as we emerge from
the pandemic.
The senator graduated from Amherst College with a B.A. in chemistry and political science, and earned a
law degree from Yale Law School and a Master’s in Ethics from Yale Divinity School. A longtime New
Castle County resident, he lives in Wilmington with his wife, Annie, and their three children, Michael,
Jack, and Maggie.
