Port Penn to Celebrate The Waterman Statue Dedication and Reopening of Interpretive Center Port Penn, DE --The Port Penn Area Historical Society invites the public to a special community event on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Port Penn Interpretive Center, located at the corner of Route 9 and Market Street. The event will feature the dedication of The Waterman statue, created by artist Matt Harris, honoring the generations of watermen who have played a vital role in shaping the history and culture of Port Penn and the surrounding region. The program will also mark the reopening of the Port Penn Interpretive Center, in partnership with the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation. The Center will reopen with refreshed exhibits, with additional enhancements planned in the coming months. “This event is both a celebration of Port Penn’s heritage and an important step forward in sharing its stories with the broader community,” said Wes Jones / Board President. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Julie Harrington at 302-750-9033 or visit www.portpenn.org.
