2024 General Election – The People Have Spoken
The November 5, 2024, General Election brought significant changes and historic milestones in Delaware and the nation. In Delaware, Lisa Blunt Rochester became the first woman and African American elected to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate. Sarah McBride was elected to the U.S. House, making her the first openly transgender person in Congress. Matt Meyer won the governorship, Kyle Evans Gay was elected Lieutenant Governor, and Melissa Minor Brown became Delaware’s first African American Speaker of the House.
John Carney made history as the first governor to step down to become a city mayor (Wilmington). At the same time, Marcus Henry and Monique Johns took office as New Castle County Executive and County Council President, respectively. Nationally, President Trump, with J.D. Vance as his Vice President-elect, won with 312 Electoral College votes against Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who received 226 votes. Despite polls predicting a close race, Trump’s victory was clear by the next morning, and he won the popular vote with 50.6%. Below are more results from the 2024 General Election.
